New Skoda Fabia is a Golf beater

Here is a bit of friendly advice for you – if you are in the market for a new family runaround, then hold fire.

The new Skoda Fabia will available next year — and it’s worth the wait.

To put it simply, it’s a VW Golf without the price tag.

In fact, the new model will cost a little over £10,000.

And for that you get a lighter, roomier yet shorter Fabia than the outgoing model.

Refined space Trust me, it has plenty of space for the school run.

If you want gadgets, the digital radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity will help add a little bit of sparkle to your commute.

In terms of engines, you will be able to choose from the 1.4litre diesel, a 1.2litre turbo or the simple 1litre triple-cylinder if performance is not top of your list of priorities.

Skoda has built a reputation in recent years for cars that are strong, solid, excellently built and stunningly reliable. Basically, it is just what you would expect from a Volkswagen, only with a different badge.

They are not exciting and they won’t turn many heads.

You may want to spend a few grand on a Triumph Spitfire to enjoy on sunny weekends.

However, for sheer practicality, refined space and value for money, you can’t go far wrong with the 2015 Fabia.

Test drive one before you plump for something else.

I would.
