In Wales last year, more than 54,000 fixed penalty notices were issued for speeding. This equates to a ticket being issued across the country every ten minutes.

Some will say such figures show that people routinely speed, meaning speed traps are vital.

I’m assuming speed traps are there to slow people down and act as a deterrent, so these figures tell me that they don’t work. If they were effective at slowing down cars, surely 54,000-plus tickets wouldn’t have been issued. One thing they are very good at is sticking money in the Government’s pocket.

Fewer speed cameras and more education is the answer.
